More than 25,000 hectares of Kaspa field peas across Western Australia in 2005

According to seed sales figures, 2005 will see more than 25,000 hectares of Kaspa field peas planted across Western Australia.

According to Peter White of the Department of Agriculture, many first time pea growers will generate a higher demand for information on pea production.

This demand will be addressed by a GRDC supported pulse industry extension project, which focuses almost exclusively on field pea extension.

The Grain Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) project is running training courses, demonstrations and promotions to cater for this demand.

“There is currently a lot of interest and momentum for field peas and we have good reason to expect more than 200,000 hectares will be grown in 2006,” Dr White said.
