The US Department of Justice (DOJ) yesterday approved Syngenta’s acquisition of Advanta BV, one of the world’s leading seed companies, as announced on 12 May. The sale of parts of Advanta to investment firm Fox Paine, also announced on 12 May, would meet conditions put forth by the DOJ and remains subject to its approval. The transaction is expected to close during the third quarter of 2004.

Syngenta is a world-leading agribusiness committed to sustainable agriculture through innovative research and technology. The company is a leader in crop protection, and ranks third in the high-value commercial seeds market. Sales in 2003 were approximately $6.6 billion. Syngenta employs some 19,000 people in over 90 countries. Syngenta is listed on the Swiss stock exchange (SYNN) and in New York (SYT).

Le Département de Justice US approuve le rachat d’Advanta par Syngenta

Le Département de justice US (DOJ) a approuvé hier l’acquisition par Syngenta d’Advanta BV, l’un des leaders mondiaux du marché des semences. Ce rachat avait été annoncé le 12 mai dernier. La vente de certaines parts du groupe Advanta à la société d‘investissement Fox Paine, annoncée également le 12 mai, serait conforme aux conditions posées par le DOJ, mais doit encore être approuvée par ce dernier. La transaction devrait être clôturée au cours du troisième trimestre de 2004.

Das amerikanische Justizministerium hat der Akquisition von Advanta, einem der weltweit führenden Saatgutanbieter, durch Syngenta zugestimmt. Die Akquisition war am 12. Mai angekündigt worden. Der ebenfalls am 12. Mai bekannt gegebene Verkauf einzelner Advanta- Geschäftsbereiche an die Investmentgesellschaft Fox Paine entspricht den Auflagen des Justizministeriums, muss von diesem allerdings noch genehmigt werden. Die Transaktion soll im Laufe des dritten Quartals 2004 abgeschlossen werden.
