The NAFSCOL is a membership organisation with up to now 72
members, mostly farmers who have seed trees on their land. These trees are
registered and marked and put into a database. Growth of the Seed Cooperative by having its name made known among the people of Nepal,
will provide a better income for the (poorer) farmers, and hence an improvement of their livelyhood. They will be interested in supplying
good seed. This way a much larger group of people are the beneficiaries
of the growth of the Cooperative (and not only 1 or 2 dealers).
The NAFSCOL is supported by the Tree Improvement and Silviculture Component under the HMG/DANIDA NARMSAP (Natural Resources Management
Sector Assistance Programme). This programme has worked on improved seed
of several tree species for some years. It provides the facilities in their seed testing lab for the necessary tests. |
