Interview with Chip Sundstrom

Do seed dealers need to be certified to sell organic seed?

As long as the dealer doesn’t repackage the seed then they don’t need to be certified.

If they do repackage organic seed (and possibly affect the organic integrity of the product) then they must be certified.

CONCLUSION

I hope these answers help provide a brief summary of a fairly complex rule.

It is interesting to note that increases in organic sales have averaged over 20% per year for over a decade and represent the fastest growing segment of agriculture in the US. It’s my wish that as many as possible in the seed industry can capitalize on this incredible growth.
