Ireland - DAFM Spring Recommended Lists for spring wheat, spring oats and spring barley 2023

Ireland
January 20, 2023

SY AMITY Spring Barley – The barley with it all - high yield, excellent straw strength, high KPH, lowest screenings, excellent for malting (zero GN) and the biggest grain for rolling (highest TGW).

SY ERRIGAL continues to be a very reliable and popular feed barley with high yields and excellent straw strength.

HUSKY Spring Oats – most popular oat in Ireland (>65% of seed) simply because HUSKY likes the Irish climate.  HUSKY has delivered for farmers and millers for the past 16 years and is the standard to beat in Dept of Ag trials since 2007.

KWS HELIUM Spring Wheat – the highest KPH wheat on the Rec List combined with an excellent yield, straw and disease resistance package.

The Bean Rec List is not yet published by DAFM but LYNX will continue to top the list for yield and straw strength (based on its performance in the 2022 DAFM trials).

Spring cereal seed will be in demand in 2023 to make up for the shortfall in winter crops area and meet grower demand.  Higher fertiliser prices and uncertain grain markets are making the business of growing crops more difficult and we see changes in how growers are approaching crop decisions.

Irish LYNX bean seed will be in huge demand as growers seek to save €200/ac from lower nitrogen costs compared to a cereal and bank another €200/ac from the Protein Aid Scheme*.

Irish LYNX seed beans are certified free from Stem Nematode and come with all the assurance of being certified by DAFM with our ZERO TOLERANCE ON GRASS WEEDS.
