With the northern grains industry facing new challenges to farm profitability each year, growers are urged to stay up to date with the latest research and development outcomes by attending the 2020 Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Grains Research Updates.

A two-day Update will be held in Dubbo on February 25 and 26 and will offer vital information on issues impacting growers – ranging from crop agronomy, nutrition management and weed control, through to drought, frost and soil constraints.

A new initiative on offer this year will be a free session for graduate and early career agronomists. The GRDC Emerging Agronomists Network session is designed to help agronomists develop their ‘soft skills’ in areas like negotiation, communication with difficult clients and conflict management.

At these sessions experienced agronomists will be invited to share their experiences and ‘what they wished they’d known’ starting out.

Kicking off at 5.10pm on day one in the Dubbo RSL Cocktail Bar, the event is open to all. Participants do not need to be attending the Update to join in but do need to RSVP for catering via www.seedbedmedia.com.au/agronomists.

GRDC Grower Relations Manager – North, Richard Holzknecht said the Updates were premier events on the northern grains industry calendar and brought together some of Australia’s leading grains research scientists, agronomists, consultants and growers.

“These events offer industry the latest information from GRDC investments into research on behalf of growers,” he said.

“Topics are selected by local planning committees and included regionally relevant, rigorously-tested research that is farm-ready and has the potential to bolster growers’ bottom lines.

“Communicating outcomes from research, along with innovative developments in technology and updates on topical issues like climate variability, is a critical part of GRDC’s role and responsibility to growers, advisers and industry stakeholders.”

The GRDC Grains Research Updates will be held across New South Wales and near the Queensland border at:

  • Wagga Wagga – February 18 and 19 at Joyes Hall, Charles Sturt University
  • Corowa – February 20 at Corowa RSL Club
  • Dubbo – February 25 and 26 at Dubbo RSL
