YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Vegetable Research and Development Intern Integrated Data System, are to:
- Build a comprehensive Vegetable Research and Development (R&D) crop cycle management plan with defined units of work;
- Develop visualization to support optimization of resource usage across crops and stages of breeding workflow;
- Develop a planning calendar that is connected to the crop cycle with key planning functional milestones;
- Leverage modeling interface to determine optimization to breeding workflows to maximize resources usage;
- Build data pipelines and tools for extraction, curation and management of genomic, phenotypic and pipeline data;
- Leverage metrics applications and quality control processes to realize accuracy, efficiency and expanded improvements to protocols;
- Observe and work with experienced senior level staff to gain knowledge about procedures, methods and standards that are required for performing successfully within the Vegetable R&D organization;
- Build a foundation for effective networking and long-term relationships within the Bayer Vegetable R&D and Crop Science community;
- Gain an overview of the different areas of the Vegetable R&D community, to foster the understanding and collaboration between functions necessary to perform in advanced capacities.

Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in 1 Master of Science or Ph.D. student with focus on Data Science, Statistics, Operational Modeling, Plant Breeding, Crop Science, Agronomy, Horticulture or related STEM field;
- Demonstrated computational skills and experience with SQL, R, R Shiny, Python or other programming languages;
- Ability to create and navigate within Spotfire or other visualization tools;
- Detail and results-oriented individual with the ability to work independently and effectively;
- Strong motivational, organizational and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills;
- 3.0 or above cumulative GPA;
- Must be returning to school to continue program of study following completion of this internship;
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US;
- Must be available to work 40 hours from June 14th, 2021 through September 3rd, 2021.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of genetics, genomics, plant/animal breeding and/or agriculture;
- Familiarity with AWS cloud computing environment;
- Familiarity with operational modeling will be as asset.
