About Us

Through leading innovations, we help farmers around the world meet the challenge of feeding a growing population and taking care of our planet. We are currently seeking an Operations Research Engineer in Durham, NC.

You will help meet the world’s most pressing needs by:

  • Focusing on complex business processes and operations within Seed Development. Operational efficiency and effectiveness will be attained by developing, implementing, and maintaining algorithmic solutions based on Operations Research / Mathematical Optimization techniques

Accountabilities

  • Build and implement mathematical optimization models using linear programming, mixed-integer programming, nonlinear programming, constraint programming, and hybrid techniques
  • This can also involve multi-objective and robust optimization techniques
  • Design and create user-friendly GUIs, reports, and data visualizations to facilitate the execution of data-driven optimization models and scenario comparisons by the end-user
  • Identify, collect, and structure data from different sources to specify input for optimization models. Support data architecture design and integration into a central data lake
  • Identify relevant business KPIs and metrics that drive optimization objectives
  • Run simulations to validate optimization models
  • Manage projects focused on the development and implementation of optimization solutions to support strategic decisions and day-to-day operations
  • Collaborate with various departments and communicate effectively with line-of-business end-users to review current operational systems and business procedures within seeds development, discover pain points, and identify mathematical optimization use-cases. Break them down into MVPs (minimum viable products) and apply Operations Research techniques
  • Prepare management reports that clearly define and analyze issues and recommend solutions to help management make informed decisions
  • Discuss and analyze the impact of Operations Research solutions with different stakeholders such as managers and subject matter experts across the various departments
  • Follow an agile way of working
  • Contribute to the development of technical training offerings and curricula to support effective implementation and awareness of Operations Research capabilities

Qualifications

  • PhD in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, Data Science, Management Science, Computer Science, or related field
  • Solid understanding of Operations Research techniques, especially mathematical programming. Knowledge of combinatorial optimization techniques is an advantage
  • 2+ years demonstrable applied experience in implementation of Operations Research / Mathematical Optimization applications in an industrial context, preferable in Manufacturing and Logistics
  • Ability to work in teams and across geographies
  • Problem-solving skills – identify complex business problems, evaluate the application of Operations Research techniques, and implement decision-support solutions
  • Hands-on experience with Mathematical Optimization Software such as CPLEX, Gurobi, MOSEK, SCIP, or Xpress
  • Experience with model development, such as AIMMS, AMPL, GAMS, Mosel, MPL, OPL, etc.
  • Experience with programming languages such as C/C++/C#, Python, etc.
  • Some experience in data visualization with Power BI, Tableau, or similar
  • Analytical mindset

What We Offer:

  • Full Benefit Package (Medical, Dental & Vision) that starts the same day you do
  • 401k plan with company match, Profit Sharing & Retirement Savings Contribution
  • Paid Vacation, 12 Paid Holidays, Maternity and Paternity Leave, Education Assistance, Wellness Programs, Corporate Discounts among others
  • A culture that promotes work/life balance, celebrates diversity and offers numerous family-oriented events throughout the year
