We are seeking interns to support watermelon breeding programs in the summer (Jun-September). You will mainly work in the field with research and breeding teams to collect phenotypic data. It would be a good opportunity to familiarize with techniques and decision-making criteria related to vegetable breeding. Join us on our journey to create solutions to make healthy eating enjoyable and sustainable!
Essential Duties Include, but are not limited to:
- Measuring watermelon-related traits and recording data
- Help to execute field and greenhouse trials as needed
- Able to regularly lift 25 lbs.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Excellent attention to details
- Methodical and thorough working habits
- Being comfortable working with tablets
- Ability to work in the field for long hours under heat and varying conditions
- Familiarity with field trials or ability to learn
- Work well under pressure to meet deadlines
- Ability to bend, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to walk several miles per day.
Qualifications
Minimum
- High school diploma or GED
Preferred
- Pursuing a degree in Agriculture or related field
- Prior field experience
