Interns for Watermelon Breeding in Northern California

Location: Acampo, Esparto and Manteca, California, USA

We are seeking interns to support watermelon breeding programs in the summer (Jun-September). You will mainly work in the field with research and breeding teams to collect phenotypic data. It would be a good opportunity to familiarize with techniques and decision-making criteria related to vegetable breeding. Join us on our journey to create solutions to make healthy eating enjoyable and sustainable!

Essential Duties Include, but are not limited to:

  • Measuring watermelon-related traits and recording data
  • Help to execute field and greenhouse trials as needed
  • Able to regularly lift 25 lbs.   

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Excellent attention to details
  • Methodical and thorough working habits
  • Being comfortable working with tablets 
  • Ability to work in the field for long hours under heat and varying conditions 
  • Familiarity with field trials or ability to learn
  • Work well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to bend, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to walk several miles per day.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • High school diploma or GED

Preferred

  • Pursuing a degree in Agriculture or related field
  • Prior field experience
