Vegetable Breeding Interns
Location: Acampo, California, USA
Where the Chemistry Happens
We are seeking an intern like you to provide support to the vegetable breeding team. The intern will work with research and breeding programs to learn techniques and decision-making criteria as it relates to vegetable hybrid/cultivar development. The Summer Internship will be available approximately between August and September.
Essential Duties Include, but are not Limited to:
- Assist in breeding programs with field phenotyping and data capture
- Assist in harvest and yield data collection
- Help to execute field and greenhouse trials as needed.
- Able to regularly lift 20 lbs.
- Data analysis
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Familiarity with melon/watermelon production or ability to learn.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Methodical and thorough working habits.
- Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues, supervisors and managers at all times.
- Work well under pressure in order to meet multiple, and sometimes, competing deadlines.
- Ability to bend, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in field under varying conditions & ability to walk several miles per day.
- Quantitative genetics and statistics knowledge
Qualifications
Minimum
- High school diploma or GED
Preferred
- Pursuing a degree in Agriculture or related field
- Prior lab/field experience
