Born on the first day of 1945 to a farmer's family in India,
Jagveer Sindhu pursued education in agriculture and eventually
earned a PhD in Plant Breeding and Genetics in 1974. His
research work on genetic improvement of food legumes earned him
recognition in India and abroad. He developed and released 11
varieties of food legumes and forages and published 109 research
papers during his scientific career of 15 years in agricultural
universities in India and Canada.
During the past 14 years, Dr. Sindhu served the
seed industry and was associated with Pioneer, Proagro and
Aventist Crop Science (now Bayer Crop Science). His diversified
responsibilities such as R&D, technology acquisition and
international
business offered him opportunities
to seed development work in several countries in Asia and
Africa. An extensively travelled person, Dr. Sindhu developed
expertise in seed business development and IPR issues.
Currently working as Director of the Asia and
Pacific Seed Association (APSA), he is engaged in promoting the
cause of quality seed production and marketing in the Asia and
Pacific region. His strong interaction with international
organizations such as FAO, CGIAR, ISF, UPOV, WIPO, ISTA, and
OECD enables him to help shape APSA into the world's largest
regional seed association. His commitment to seed and APSA is
absolute. |
