Darrell A. Maddox, President, joined STA
Laboratories, Inc. in 1991 as a Manager of Biochemical Services.
In 1993, he was promoted to Vice President of Technical
Operations and was named President in 1995. Darrell Maddox was
instrumental in bringing seed health testing services to STA
Laboratories in the early 1990’s, creating the only company in
the United States to offer the seed industry all seed quality
testing services. Most recently, Darrell has expanded the STA
Laboratories, Inc. plant pathology services and products by
signing a distribution agreement with BIOREBA AG of Basel,
Switzerland, manufacturers of quality diagnostic kits and
reagents for plant pathogenic viruses. Under his direction, STA
Laboratories was honored in the year 2000, as one of the fastest
growing companies in Northern Colorado by
The Northern Colorado Business Reporter.
Prior to joining STA
Laboratories, Darrell worked for the Asgrow Seed Co. as a plant
pathologist. His primary duties at Asgrow included breeder
support in development of pathogen resistant cultivars, seed
health testing for quality assurance and plant pathology support
and education for promoting healthy seed production.
Since graduating from
Colorado State University in 1980 with his B.S. in plant
pathology, Darrell has accumulated over 20 years experience in
plant pathology related positions, 17 years of that, within the
seed industry. In 1985, Darrell also completed his M.Sc. in
plant pathology from Colorado State University. In addition,
Darrell has completed the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA)
Management Academy hosted by Purdue University.
Darrell has been active
throughout his career in seed industry associations and
committees. His accomplishments include; Chair of the ASTA
Seed-borne Disease Committee, National Seed Health System (NSHS)
Technical Seed Group member and charter member of the organizing
committee, International Seed Health Initiative (ISHI) Technical
Coordination Group Chair, American Phytopathological Society
(APS) Chair of the Seed Pathology Committee and most recently,
Associate Member Board Representative to the California Seed
Association (CSA). He has also been on several trade-missions on
behalf of the ASTA to North Africa, Eastern Europe and Mexico.
