Application Specialist, Breeding

We are looking for an Application Specialist, Breeding, based in Italy (St. Agata)
Job purpose
Support the breeding teams in data management by:
- Keeping existing applications within the breeding department up and running.
- Training and supporting users in specific breeding applications.
- Supplying and maintaining tools (hardware and software) for collection of phenotypic data and for generation of field labels
Major Accountabilities
- Functional application management of all breeding-specific software
- Execute implementations and migrations to global breeding applications.
- Develop and maintain, within existing breeding applications, custom-made tools and reports for users.
- Develop and maintain interfaces between the different breeding applications
- Translate needs of users into new functionality for the development of new releases
- Testing of new applications or new releases
- Support the users of breeding-specific software
- Develop trainings, training documents with regard to the specific applications.
- Instruct, train, inform and monitor users, new and experienced, regarding the use of the specific applications.
- Purchase and maintain of hardware (local/regional) as hand-held computers, barcode scanners, balances, label printers etc.
- Contact person between users and local/regional ICT department.
- Budget responsibility for local/regional hardware, user materials (eg labels), traveling
- Contribute to the global knowledge and expertise of the application management team
- Participate in global coordination meetings
- Be a sparring partner of the Application Manager Breeding
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor degree (preferable “green” degree).
- Experience in breeding applications and practical experience in plant breeding.
- Extensive knowledge of MS-Excel and VBA is preferable.
- Retrieve information from databases, based on knowledge of ICT technologies (SQL), databases (MS-Access) and reporting tools.
- Excellent speaking and writing in Italian and English.
- Competencies: analytical, accurate, interpersonal skills at and with all levels, independent, pro-active/initiative, creative and a team player, ability to work in a global team.
Working conditions
- Be prepared to start earlier or work later in case difference in time zone of supported end users exist
- Traveling with regard to international (global Nunhems) users and meetings, occasional workshops/trainings or congresses/conferences (up to ± 10 trips/year).
