Cauliflower Breeder

Location: Warmenhuizen, The Netherlands


 

Job description

Are you passionated about plantbreeding and do you want to work in an international team? 
Then the role of Cauliflower breeding is something for you. 
We are looking for a Cauliflower Breeder to be based in our research station in Warmenhuizen, where you are working for the breeding program of HM Clause. 
In this position, you will assume an important role within our international Cauliflower breeding team.
You will report to the Cauliflower Breeding Coordinator based in France.
And have close interactions with colleagues across R&D, Marketing, Commercial and Production departments.
In cooperation with team members, you will develop the breeding strategy aimed at the release of leading hybrids. You are an enthusiastic, dedicated, and results-oriented person who can make the difference in a competitive international market. You combine modern breeding skills with interest in practical field work.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  •  Translate  the crop R&D strategy into approved product-oriented breeding projects and plans. Actively steer progress to deliver leading hybrids, monitoring and reporting on genetic progress and KPIs
  • Manage a Breeding assistant locally and strongly participate to the work of an international team
  • Manage all components of a successful breeding program: management of germplasm, elite line development with innovative traits, hybrid development and evaluation, and elite seed production
  • Develop thorough knowledge of the crop, products, markets, and customers through liaison with Marketing, Product Development, and Sales
  • Optimize and improve breeding success by the implementation of breeding technologies (doubled haploids, markers, data acquisition and analysis, breeding decision support systems, etc.)
  • Travel to relevant markets for trial and product evaluation - ensure objectivity and reliability, sound data processing, and fact-based decision-making

Job requirements

  • MSc in plant breeding and/ or plant breeding working experience
  • Strong interest in field evaluation and crop growing
  • Ability to communicate, plan activity and work in an international team
  • Strong interest and background in modern breeding techniques, database, and breeding support tool application
  •  Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally frequently (up to 25%)
  • Proficient in English and Dutch
