Mid-West Seed Services, Inc. of Brookings, South Dakota is pleased to announce the addition of a DNA Laboratory Manager to our seed testing laboratory.

Dr. Weiping Zhang joined MWSS earlier this summer as DNA Laboratory Manager. Dr. Zhang has extensive experience in DNA testing including DNA fingerprinting, molecular breeding, GMO testing and genetic analysis with PCR-based DNA marker technologies.

Weiping received both his B.S. and M.S. in Botany while in China. He earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology in 1996 from Iowa State University. He spent four years there in the DNA laboratory conducting PCR, AFLP, primer design, DNA isolation, cloning and sequencing, and BLAST and FAST sequence searching. He then completed a year of post-doctorate work as a research associate at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia conducting various DNA projects utilizing PCR. This was followed by more than three years as a GMO testing laboratory manager.

Dr. Zhang has a key role in the expansion of our present DNA testing program and DNA laboratory. Mid-West Seed Services, Inc. has offered PCR-based testing since 1998 and is presently expanding both our staff and laboratory capabilities.
