Mid-West Seed Services, Inc.
is pleased to announce the addition of seven new staff members
to our seed testing laboratory.
Kevin
Stahl joined MWSS full time in June as a Seed Technologist
in the Soybean Laboratory after working the past two seasons as
a student laboratory technician. He received his BS in Ag
Business from South Dakota State University in May 2000. Kevin’s
responsibilities include conducting herbicide, germination,
vigor, purity and TZ tests on soybeans.

Heather Waxdahl joined MWSS in August as a PCR Laboratory
Technologist. Heather received her BS in Biology/Microbiology
from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD in May of
2000. She has experience in PCR and agarose gel electrophoresis,
along with site-directed mutagenesis, ligations, and
transformations. Her duties at MWSS include extracting DNA and
protein from seed and plant tissues, and conducting DNA
analysis. Heather will also assist with the ELISA testing
program.
Michelle
Hayes joined MWSS in August as a Seed Technologist in the
Corn Laboratory. Michelle completed the Seed Analyst Training
Program at Colorado State University, in Fort Collins, CO. She
spent the last two years working for Illinois Crop Improvement
as a seed analyst and field inspector. Michelle’s
responsibilities at MWSS include conducting germination and cold
tests on corn and purity testing on many species.
Holly
Sutton joined MWSS in September as an Electrophoresis
Laboratory Developer in the DNA/Protein Laboratory. She received
her BS in Microbiology and Chemistry from South Dakota State
University in Brookings, SD. Holly worked as a Research
Associate at Louisiana State University studying Photosystem II
in spinach and cyanobacteria. She has experience in PCR and
various electrophorectic techniques. Her duties at MWSS include
developing a corn isozyme/electrophoresis testing program.
Angela
Hoberg joined MWSS in August as a Seed Technologist in the
Corn Laboratory. Angela has an Associate Diploma in Agriculture
from the Ontario Agricultural College in Ontario, Canada. She
was born and raised in Canada, and moved to the United States in
1995. Her responsibilities at MWSS include conducting
germination and herbicide tests on corn.
Judith
Jardine joined MWSS in September as a Seed Technologist in
the Multiple Species Laboratory. Judith received her BS and MS
in Botany from Ohio University; and has three years of graduate
work in the Botany Department at the University of Georgia. She
has extensive experience with viability and germination test
procedures in an academic setting. Judith is evaluating
germinations and TZ tests on grasses, legumes, vegetables, and
cereals.
Terena
Mathis joined MWSS in September as a Laboratory
Technician/Planting Coordinator in the Soybean Laboratory. She
received her BS in Agricultural Education from South Dakota
State University in Brookings, SD. Prior to employment here, she
was a Vocational Agricultural teacher in Lake Preston, SD.
Terena is leading the planting crew in the soybean lab and
evaluating soybean tests.
