Strategic Diagnostics significantly expands market reach for its trait check crop test
Newark, Delaware
November 29, 1999

Strategic Diagnostics, Inc. today announced that it has entered a distribution agreement with
Agricultural Information Technologies (AIT) of Iroquois, South Dakota. SDI will work with AIT as a
distribution agent for the Company's Trait Check (TM) test kits that are used for the detection of
Genetically Modified Organisms in grain, leaf and seed. This agreement gives AIT exclusive rights for distribution and sale of the Roundup Ready (TM) Trait Check (TM) kits in the U.S. and Latin
America.

AIT provides key components of an Identity Preserved System for input and output traits in seed,
crop, grain and food products. The Postmark (TM) line of products assists businesses in effectively tracking agricultural materials. The Postmark brand products includes SIGNPOST (TM), an on-site field marking system, SEEDTAG (TM), a comprehensive database of seed traits for corn, soybeans, and cotton and CROPTOUCH (TM), a process and material tracking system. AIT, in affiliation with its distribution partners, which include United Agri-Products and Cenex, has over 1,000 sales representatives throughout the world.

According to Tim Aughenbaugh, President and CEO of AIT, "AIT is excited to work with SDI in
better serving the agricultural industry as it increases its focus on the traceability of agricultural
materials. In order for AIT to complete its Identity Preservation product line, we needed an enabling tool to validate the input or output trait associated with seed, grain or food. With SDI's Roundup Ready (TM) Trait Check (TM) product line for soybeans, we will now be able to secure the identity of this ingredient throughout the value chain from the producer to the consumer. This strategic relationship with SDI will allow AIT to assume the leading role as the industry's provider of ''agricultural identity preservation systems."

According to Richard C. Birkmeyer, President and CEO of SDI, "We believe AIT's strong
presence in the market from farmer to food processor as well as their patented Identity Preservation tools make them an excellent choice to promote and implement the use of Roundup Ready (TM) Trait Check (TM) across the country. AIT will be able to offer a very comprehensive line of products that will be utilized on the front lines of seed and crop Identity Preservation in the U.S. One thousand plus field representatives will now carry the Trait Check (TM) products out to the entire customer base from Farmgate to Food Manufacturer. This new partnership will allow SDI to focus on working with the AgBiotech Industry to continue the launch of multiple new genetically enhanced crop and grain testing tools. This will allow labeling of food products and a commercially feasible solution for identity preservation of genetically enhanced and traditional grains. The freedom of choice will ultimately benefit the industry to allow consumer choice and acceptance of genetically enhanced crops and food products. We believe that the voluntary labeling initiatives likely to be implemented by most of the food industry will benefit from the combined trait tracking system created by AIT and SDI.''

SDI is a leading provider of biotechnology-based diagnostic tests for a broad range of agricultural,
industrial and water-treatment applications. Through its antibody business, Strategic BioSolutions, Strategic Diagnostics also provides antibody and immunoreagent research and development services. SDI's test kits are produced in a variety of formats suitable for field and laboratory use, offering advantages of accuracy, cost-effectiveness, portability, and rapid response. Trait Check (TM) is a pending trademark for SDI.
