All Wool Self-Felting Pellet Prevents Weeds and Improves Soil Media

Simplot Turf and Horticulture introduces APEX Wulkap, an all wool pellet designed for weed prevention, soil media amendment and moisture retention. Joining Simplot’s existing line of controlled-release APEX fertilizers, Wulkap is a compacted organic wool by-product containing no manures or compost.

Additional Wulkap features:

  • Turns into a wool "blanket" that last up to 12 months

  • Creates a light barrier preventing weed germination

  • Reduces water loss by evaporation by 30 to 60 percent when used on the surface

  • Improves air porosity and reduces compaction in growing medias

  • Reduces stress on plants by increasing mean temperature and cutting out temperature peaks

  • Improves water growing medias water holding capacity by absorbing and holding moisture

Wulkap is a 100 percent biodegradable product that actually releases nitrogen. It not only helps prevent weed germination, but also inhibits the growth of liverwort, pearlwort, moss and algae.
