Hybrids, a division of AgReliant Genetics, LLC will offer corn
hybrids for the 2001 planting season with the seed-applied Prescribe insecticide
from Gustafson LLC. Great Lakes is offering the treatment on 12 of their key
hybrids.
"The seed-applied insecticides, and specifically Prescribe, have generated a
great interest from our customers and dealers," said Jeff Oesterreicher, director
of sales and marketing. "We are offering this innovative treatment on our key,
high-powered genetics."
Prescribe is applied to each kernel of seed during conditioning. It eliminates
on-farm insecticide containers, along with the application equipment normally
used at planting time - thus making the seed more environmentally-friendly and
safer.
The new Prescribe corn insecticide provides protection against corn rootworm,
flea beetles (which can cause Stewart's wilt), early season aphids, plus
wireworms, seed corn maggots and imported fire ants. Prescribe provides a
season-long, systemic protection through contact and feeding. The
healthier-starting plants produce a stronger, healthier plant at harvest.
"We've seen first-hand in our testing that Prescribe is an outstanding product,"
adds Tex Young, GLH agronomist. "The early plant protection this product provides
against flea beetles, wireworms, and seedcorn maggots has definitely added to
profitability with more bushels at harvest. In Great Lakes testing this year,
Prescribe-treated hybrids yielded 20 bushels per acre more than the same
untreated checks in locations with high infestation."
Gustafson is North America's leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of
proprietary chemistry, biological agents and sophisticated application equipment
for seed treatment and seedling protection. The Gustafson product line includes
fungicides, insecticides, biological products, grain protectants, seed coatings,
seed treatment equipment, treatment applicators and automatic sampling equipment.
Great Lakes Hybrids is a division of AgReliant Genetics, LLC, the industry's
eighth largest corn company by volume with the fifth largest corn research
program. Great Lakes Hybrids has produced more winners per entry than any
Midwestern seed company in the National Corn Growers annual Corn Yield Contest.
Great Lakes Hybrids and AgReliant Genetics have been able to produce
top-performing conventional genetics for incorporation of new transgenic traits.
