ExSeed Genetics opens doors to new research facility

Owensboro, Kentucky

ExSeed Genetics has solidified its commitment to being the world leader in research and development of output traits in grains with the grand opening of the company's new research facility in Ames, Iowa.

ExSeed's new research facility is located at the Iowa State University Research Park. It will house all strategic research functions for ExSeed.

Since the company's inception, ExSeed Genetics has worked closely with Iowa State University as ExSeed developed its value-added grains. Dr. Peter Keeling, director of research for ExSeed Genetics, has been based at Iowa State University while heading the company's research efforts.  Stephen Howell, director of the Plant Sciences Institute at Iowa State University, says, "The interaction between ExSeed Genetics and Iowa State University scientists has been a model of academic-industry collaboration and a successful example of applying the new tools of technology to plant sciences."

ExSeed provides value-enhanced grains to feed, food and industrial markets under the brand name ExSeed Enhanced®. ExSeed Genetics works with a variety of seed and production partners within the ExSeed Contracting Network to provide animal feeders, millers and food processors ExSeed
Enhanced traits in grains that add value and improve the end-use product.

ExSeed Genetics was the first company to release a low-phytate corn variety, NutriDense LP(tm), which is available on a limited basis to swine and poultry producers throughout the United States.

Jerry Weigel, director of nutrition and regulatory affairs for ExSeed, says the state-of-the-art research facility will help the company work to develop its proprietary lines of value-added grains. "The feed industry wants corn hybrids bred with specific value-added traits," Weigel says.
"Our new facilities will give us the latest tools to help bring these crops to market."
