Emergent Genetics  and Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst acquire Indusem, leading Chilean seed production company

Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst Incorporated of Dallas, Texas, a leading U.S.-based private equity firm, and Emergent Genetics Incorporated, a management affiliate focused on the seed industry, announced the acquisition of the assets of Indusem, SA of Calera de Tango, Chile.

Emergent Genetics is a new venture combining the strong seed industry and biotech experience of its management with the financial strength and development capabilities of Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst. Emergent's exclusive focus is toward direct equity investment in established seed companies, enabling them to develop capital. Emergent brings access to biotechnology as well as the consolidation, integration and operation expertise necessary for expansion and growth.

Indusem is a leading contract seed production company with long-standing relationships with several large multinational corporations. The company's contracts are mainly for off-season production for corn, sunflower, and vegetable seed for the United States and Europe.

Along with continuation of existing operations, Emergent plans to use this production site as a complement to its other seed company investments worldwide.
