Dow AgroSciences and Third Wave Agbio enter license agreement on Invader product platform

Indianapolis, Indiana and Madison, Wisonsin
August 23,  2001

Dow AgroSciences LLC and Third Wave Agbio Inc. today announced that Dow AgroSciences LLC has adopted Third Wave Agbio's proprietary Invader® product platform for high volume detection of genetic variations in plants.

Under a licensing agreement signed by the two companies, Third Wave Agbio will develop and supply Dow AgroSciences with custom, turnkey Invader products for the detection of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and other genetic variations as well as products for the detection and quantitation of DNA sequences in genetically-engineered plants.

"The Invader product platform offers several advantages over conventional genetic analysis
technologies," said Glen Donald, chief executive officer of Third Wave Agbio. "The Invader product
platform produces highly accurate results, is easy to use and eliminates the need for copying the
genetic sample using PCR (polymerase chain reactions), saving the user time and money, while
significantly reducing the risks associated with sample contamination.

"Because they are scalable and automatable, Invader products are as ideally suited for both large- and small-scale applications including genotyping, marker assisted selection, transgene detection and quantification, zygosity testing, screening for disease-related mutations and gene expression analysis," Donald added.

Speaking for Dow AgroSciences, Dr. Ron Meeusen, Vice President of Plant Genetics Research,
added, "The Invader product platform allows us to further leverage our core strengths in plant
biotechnology, molecular biology and plant genetics. The product platform is flexible enough to support our research program's diverse range of genetic analysis needs, and its sensitivity, accuracy and scalability will accelerate our discovery and development process."
