Mycogen Seeds
announced today that it has completed its acquisition of Cargill Hybrid
Seeds from Cargill Incorporated. The newly acquired assets will be
integrated into the Mycogen organization, which is affiliated with
Dow AgroSciences LLC, providing a
larger and more efficient platform for delivering top quality seeds and biotechnology products to market.
Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed.
Mycogen acquired all seed research, production and distribution assets of Cargill Hybrid Seeds in the U.S.
and Canada, except Cargill's InterMountain Canola, Goertzen Seed Research and the Western Canadian
seed distribution business.
With a growing portfolio of corn, soybean, sunflower, alfalfa and sorghum seed products in the U.S. and
Canada, Mycogen Seeds is now the third-largest producer in the increasingly important U.S. seed corn
market.
"The acquisition of Cargill Hybrid Seeds adds outstanding people, germplasm, operations and research
capabilities to an already-strong Mycogen Seeds organization,'' said Pete Siggelko, Global Leader, Plant
Genetics & Biotechnology, Dow AgroSciences.
"We are excited about the strength of the combined organization and look forward to leveraging that
strength to provide farmers even greater innovation and a more well-rounded product offering.''
Siggelko noted that the acquisition will not affect the sales, service or distribution of seed products from
Cargill Hybrid Seeds and Mycogen Seeds during the 2000/01 sales season.
