Dr. Kater Hake assumes new role as Vice President of Technology Development at Delta and Pine Land Company

Scott, Mississippi
May 17,  2001

Delta and Pine Land Company announced that Dr. Kater Hake is assuming the position of vice president of technology development effective immediately. The newly created position includes oversight of the development of new, innovative products for the company from product inception through commercialization, according to Steve M. Hawkins, D&PL president and chief operating officer.

"The role of technology and innovation in our business has grown substantially," Hawkins said. "To maximize the potential that technology can provide our farmer customers and our business, we created a position with that as the focal point. The first wave of technology has been very beneficial to the industry and as we look to the future there are great possibilities ahead for us. Given the potential impact on farmers, we wanted someone with a depth and breadth of experience, expertise and enthusiasm that is rare. That description aptly fits Kater Hake."

Hake built his experience both at the company working internationally and with major trade associations in the US as well as through other work in agriculture. Hake has previously led international technical service efforts for D&PL. Those efforts will combine with the efforts already
headed by Dr. Tom Kerby, broadening Kerby's responsibilities to cover technical services testing and product development efforts globally.

Hake has over 20 years experience in all aspects of the cotton industry, most notably as head of the National Cotton Council's Cotton Physiology Education Program, which he initiated. He holds a Ph.D. in Botany/Plant Physiology and an M.S. in Agronomy/Plant Breeding from the University of California at Riverside and Davis.

Delta and Pine Land Company is a commercial breeder, producer and marketer of cotton planting seed, as well as soybean seed in the Cotton Belt. For more than 80 years, the Mississippi-based company has used its extensive plant breeding programs drawing from a diverse germplasm base to develop superior varieties. Delta and Pine Land (NYSE: DLP) has offices in eight states and facilities in several foreign countries.
