Paymaster Bollgard™/Roundup
Ready® stacked varieties outperformed their Roundup Ready
counterparts in field trails across the Texas southern high
plains in a two-year test conducted by Delta and Pine Land
Company. Results from the trials were presented at the Beltwide
Cotton Conferences in Anaheim, Calif.
"Overall the stacked varieties had higher yields, higher
dollar return per acre, more bolls per plant and greater fruit
retention than the Roundup Ready varieties tested," says
Jeff Miller, product development agronomist for D&PL in
Lubbock, Texas.
In the 26 sites tested, PM 2280 BG/RR was compared with PM
2200 RR, while PM 2326 BG/RR was compared to PM 2326 RR.
"The economic advantage of using Bollgard/Roundup Ready
in a stacked configuration averaged $40.23/acre gross return
across the tests," says Miller. "PM 2280 BG/RR had a
$43.88/acre advantage over PM 2200 RR and PM 2326 BG/RR had a
$30.51 advantage over PM 2326 RR."
In the yield area, the Bollgard/Roundup Ready stacked
varieties averaged 87 lbs./acre increase over the Roundup Ready
varieties. PM 2280 BG/RR outyielded PM 2200 RR by 82.3
lbs./acre, while PM 2326 BG/RR had a 38.4 lbs./acre increase
over PM 2326 RR.
In other test areas, the Bollgard/Roundup Ready stacked
varieties had an average increase of 0.5 bolls/plant, an
eight-percent increase in total fruit retention, matured 1-2
days earlier and were approximately one-half inch shorter.
