July 29, 1999American Cyanamid Company, a subsidiary of American
Home Products Corporation, and Monsanto Company
announced today a multi-year supply agreement that will allow Cyanamid to purchase
glyphosate herbicide from Monsanto for use in Cyanamid premixes in the United States.
The licensing agreement also allows for certain Cyanamid-branded glyphosate products to be
sold for use over the top of Roundup Ready soybeans, beginning with the 2000 season. Once
registered, these Cyanamid brands will be included in Monsanto's technology use guide.
Monsanto's Roundup and Roundup Ultra herbicides, which include the active ingredient
glyphosate, and Cyanamid's glyphosate pre-mix brand(s) will compete with each other in the
agricultural marketplace.
