Dr. Jerry Caulder, Akkadix
founder, Chairman, and CEO received the BioCom/San Diego James
McGraw Most Distinguished Contribution Award for 2000, which was
presented during the October 30-31 CalBio Summit held in San
Diego, California. BIOCOM/San Diego is the regional association
for biotechnology, medical device and bio-agriculture companies
in San Diego County
The award, granted
in honor of James McGraw, a pioneer designer of some of the
first biotechnology laboratories and electronic and
communication facilities in San Diego, is presented annually to
a San Diego citizen who has demonstrated exemplary business
acumen, civic leadership, and whose actions raise the spirit of
potential within the biotechnology industry.
Dr Caulder has
exemplified these characteristics during the past year through
his leadership of Akkadix, a rapidly growing agricultural
biotechnology company in San Diego, and his vigorous promotion
of biotechnology to help banish hunger, preserve the environment
and improve health and safety. Dr. Caulder is a recognized
industry spokesman whose opinions on business and science are
frequently sought after by leaders in government, industry and
various professional organizations.
Although a native of
Missouri, Dr. Caulder has dedicated himself to the San Diego by
participating in the business community, government, and
philanthropy. Previously, Dr Caulder was the CEO and Chairman of
Mycogen Corporation, one of the most successful companies in the
agricultural biotechnology industry.
Dr. Caulder is a
member of the Advisory council on Small Business and Agriculture
of the Federal Reserve Board of San Francisco, a member of the
California Governor’s Council on Science and Technology, and a
former trustee of the Rueben H. Fleet Space Center in San Diego.
He is the former Chairman of the Industrial Biotechnology
Association, a predecessor to the Biotechnology Industry
Organization (BIO) and currently serves on BIO’s Board of
Directors.
