FiberMax 989 now available for California’s 1999 cotton season
Wilmington, Delaware
March 15, 1999

AgrEvo USA Company says FiberMax(TM) 989 cotton variety is now available to California growers after two years of testing in California University/Extension variety trials and the San Joaquin Valley Cotton Board screening tests. The cottonseed distributors that have FiberMax 989 seed available for California producers include: CPCSD; Anderson Clayton; McFarland Cooperative Gin, Inc.; CA Delinting Co.; Western Farm Service; Britz Fertilizers, Inc.; Helena Chemical Co.; Calarco, Inc.; UAP; Wilbur-Ellis Co. and J.R. Simplot Co.

Planting FiberMax 989 may help California growers get a jump on the ’99 season, which could
help increase their yield per acre. Because of FiberMax’s excellent germination and seedling
vigor, lower seeding rates are needed to achieve desired plant populations required for maximum
benefits of FiberMax 989. Three plants per foot of row are recommended for optimum
performance.

In ’97 and ’98, Fibermax 989 was included in California University/Extension variety trials in
addition to the San Joaquin Valley Cotton Board screening and Acala I tests at Shafter,
Buttonwillow, West Side Field Station and Chowchilla. In 1997, FiberMax 989 topped these
conventional commercial variety tests at Shafter, West Side and Chowchilla, at 1,568, 1,623 and
1,684 pounds of lint per acre, respectively. FiberMax 989 had the highest yield at the West Side
Field Station in 1998 and averaged 1,111 pounds of lint per acre over all locations in the San
Joaquin Valley Cotton Board Acala I test, a 6% yield increase over the standard variety.

Additionally, FiberMax 989 offers California growers fiber quality similar to that of Acala SJ2 or
GC510. FiberMax 989 has excellent Verticillium wilt tolerance and is a mid-season maturing
variety under California growing conditions.
