Alexandra, Victoria, Australia
January 1998Valley Seeds Pty. Ltd. has crown from
humble beginnings in 1972. Since then, its record of achievement is outstanding. About 20
years ago, the company decided to embark upon a plant breeding investment which would take
it into a league dominated by multi-national companies. Valley Seeds is 100%
Australian-owned and is the only Australian-owned company to breed temperate grasses.
In a recent publication of the Plant Breeders Rights
Journal the record is clear, with Valley Seeds either breeding or being licensee to over a
third of all temperate grasses listed with Plant Breeders Rights since its inception in
1987.

Managing Director, Don Coles, said of their
achievements, "My late father, Jim Coles, the founder of Valley Seeds, initiated many
of the breeding and evaluation programmes that led to these results, and he would be proud
of the breakthroughs which we have achieved in pasture grass development". He further
commented "Valley Seeds has many more varieties to be commercially released over the
next few years, which will confirm our position as the best breeder in Australia. Farmers
can buy our varieties with the knowledge that they are buying from the only 100%
Australian-owned grass breeding company".
