Nufarm obtains additional glyphosate uses for U.S. markets
St. Joseph, Missouri
January 11, 1999

Building on its expanding access to the U.S. glyphosate herbicide market, Nufarm Credit(TM) brand glyphosate - the active ingredient in Roundup herbicide - will be authorized for use over the top of Roundup Ready' soybeans and cotton in October, and over the top of Roundup ready com the following year.

In a previously announced agreement with Monsanto, Nufarm Credit glyphosate herbicide is available to agricultural chemical distributors in select markets, with expanded distribution in the coming years. "We have successfully negotiated access to these important markets to give agricultural distributors and producers a choice of suppliers for glyphosate herbicide. This new agreement opens the available market to include transgenic crops, increasing Nufarm sales opportunities enormously," explains Nick Weedman, Nufarm General Manager.

"Our focus this year will be agricultural producers using glyphosate in a broad range of applications. Special emphasis will be placed on producers using Nufarm Credit with Weedone 638 in preplant burndown and fallow ground applications," Weedman says.

Nufarm Credit also is registered for roadside weed control, industrial, turf and ornamental markets, and utility rights of way. And for the aquatic market, Nufarm will supply Nufarm Aquaneat(TM). Nufarm manufactures these glyphosate products at its facilities in St. Joseph, Mo., and Lobeco, S.C., with distribution throughout North America.

"With about 15 years of experience manufacturing and marketing glyphosate in Australia, we are bringing quality, cost-effective herbicides with precise formulations to the U.S. agricultural market," Weedman says. "Nufarm has been a supplier of crop protection products for more than 40 years. We may be new to the U.S. market, but we're not new to the agricultural weed control business. At current commodity prices, Nufarm Credit is an economical alternative for U.S. agricultural producers."

GIyphosate is a broad-spectrum, nonselective systemic herbicide used for the control of annual and perennial plants including grasses, broadleaf weeds and woody plants. It has a wide variety of cropland and non-cropland uses.

Iii addition to Nufarm Credit, Nufarm also produces and markets a full line of phenoxy (2,4-D) herbicides, including Weedone 638, to the U.S. market.

"Glyphosate and phenoxy herbicides are proven performers that, when used according to label directions, are environmentally sound," Weedman says. "Our formulations provide farmers the most effective, competitively priced herbicides. Nufarm is helping today's farmers maximize their bottom line."

With worldwide headquarters in Melbourne, Australia, Nufarm is a leading manufacturer and supplier of crop protection products. "Our company's success is largely based on our international network of sales and marketing operations, strategically located manufacturing plants, as well as key alliances with chemical companies," Weedman says.

Nufarm is the world's leading phenoxy herbicide producer. The company consistently ranks as one of the top producers of quality herbicides in the world and is the number one manufacturer and formulator of crop protection products in Australia. Nufarm also supplies hurnan health products and industrial chemicals.
