The Home Garden activity grows by + 4,1 % (i.e. + 1,7 % with constant perimeter and - 0,2 % with constant perimeter and currencies). After a good start in spring, the fourth quarter was penalized by a slow down in France and to a lesser extent in the United States, which a very good end of the season in England and the successful integration of the Geissler activity into Flora Frey could not compensate. The recovery of our English subsidiary Suttons is also to be noted : the company should return to break-even as from this year, as forecast.
The Professional sector shows a cumulated growth of + 6,2 % (i.e. + 2,1 % with constant currencies) and confirms once again its potential to develop internationally. The year finishes with a good end of the season for most of our companies.
hus, our subsidiary Harris Moran, penalized by production area reductions in the United States during the second half year 1999, finally closed the fiscal year with a growth of sales.
The group's results as of June 30, 2000 have not yet been audited. The first trends confirm however an increase of profitability that should be in line with or even exceed targets.
The 1999/2000 fiscal year was full of events :
- Purchase of the home garden assets of Geissler in Switzerland,
- Foundation of CNOS-Vilmorin in Poland,
- Continuation of the strategic alliance with Hazera within a biotechnology joint venture in the United States,
- Research agreements with the American company
Agritope
- Partnership with the Ball group in the field of professional flower seeds, and with the Danish company D.L.F. in lawn seeds, and
- Purchase of 40 % of the stock of the Japanese company Kyowa in July.
These are as many opportunities and new growth potentials.
