Hoechst Schering AgrEvo GmbH and representatives of
the Bilakhia Group, Vapi Gujarat, India, have finalised their deal to enter into a Joint
Venture in the synthetic pyrethroid insecticide business as announced in March 1999.
AgrEvo acquired a 51% share in Mitsu Industries Limited (MIL), India, through its French
subsidiary Hoechst Schering AgrEvo S.A. for an undisclosed amount. The name of the Joint
Venture Company will be “Bilag Industries Private Limited”
(Bilag). The registered office will be at Mumbai (Bombay), India.
The Joint Venture will have approx. 850 employees. It will be engaged in development and
synthesis of agricultural pyrethroids, and of non-light stable pyrethroids used mainly in
Environmental Health. The Joint Venture will also manufacture a number of pyrethroid
intermediates.
Synthetic pyrethroids are modern fourth generation insecticides related in structure to
naturally occurring substances. Pyrethroids work at low doses and are biodegradable. They
can be used to control a broad range of crop insects and to provide environmental and
public health pest control
solutions.
Dr. Gerhard Prante - Chairman of the Board of AgrEvo GmbH - said: ”This Joint Venture

multinational companies in the crop protection industry.”
The agrochemical company Mitsu Industries Ltd. is part of the Bilakhia Group based in Vapi
Gujarat, India. The group was founded by Mr. Yunus Bilakhia. Mitsu was started in 1992,
and for the year ending March 1999 it reached a turnover of US $ 80 mill., with exports to
the value of
US $ 57 mill..
AgrEvo is a global player in Biotechnology, Seeds, Crop Protection and Environmental
Health. The company markets a wide range of products for enhancing crop production,
together with applications for urban pest control. AgrEvo operates in more than 70
countries with approx. 8600
employees. Sales for 1998 were DM 4.2 billion. On 1 December 1998 Hoechst AG and
Rhône-Poulenc SA announced their intention together with Schering AG to merge their
agricultural interests to form Aventis
CropScience.

Hoechst Schering AgrEvo GmbH, Berlin, und Vertreter der
Bilakhia Gruppe, Vapi Gujarat, Indien, haben einen Vertrag über ein Joint Ventures zur
Entwicklung und Produktion von synthetischen Pyrethroiden unterzeichnet, wie im März des
Jahres angekündigt. AgrEvos französische Tochter AgrEvo S.A. übernimmt von der Bilakhia
Firmengruppe 51 % der Anteile an Mitsu Industries Limited (MIL) zu einem nicht genannten
Betrag. Das Joint Venture wird dann in „Bilag Industries Private Limited“
(Bilag) umbenannt mit Sitz in Mumbai (Bombay) in Indien.
Das Joint Venture wird etwa 850 Mitarbeiter haben. Es wird in der Entwicklung und der
Produktion sowohl von Pyrethroiden für die Landwirtschaft als auch von nicht
lichtbeständigen Pyrethroiden für die Anwendung in Haus und Garten und in der
Landschaftspflege tätig sein. Darüber hinaus stellt Bilag eine Reihe von
Zwischenprodukten für die Synthese von Pyrethroiden her.
Pyrethroide sind moderne Insektizide der „vierten Generation“, die in Struktur
und Wirkung natürlich vorkommenden Substanzen nachgebildet sind. Pyrethroide wirken
bereits in geringen Dosen und sind in der Natur abbaubar.

Das Agrarchemie-Unternehmen Mitsu ist Teil der Bilakhia Gruppe mit Sitz in Vapi Gujarat.
Mitsu wurde 1992 gegründet und hat im Geschäftsjahr einen Umsatz von 80 Millionen US$
erreicht.
AgrEvo ist ein international führendes Unternehmen in der Pflanzenbiotechnologie, der
Saatgutproduktion, dem Pflanzenschutz und in der Schädlingsbekämpfung. Die Firma
