MSI, AgrEvo sign software agreement
Munich, Germany
January 11, 1999

Molecular Simulations Inc. (MSI) announces a major agreement with AgrEvo, one of the world's leading plant protection and production companies. AgrEvo researchers will apply MSI's molecular modeling software to accelerate their agrochemical research.

Under the agreement, scientists at AgrEvo's Frankfurt, Germany, and Chesterford Park, UK, sites will have access to an extensive suite of MSI software for design and optimization of biologically active compounds.

"Molecular modeling is a key strategic component of AgrEvo's research,'' says Dr. Robert Klein, Senior Scientist in AgrEvo's Modeling Team. "Lead finding, lead optimization, combinatorial chemistry, and other areas of today's research need to be accompanied by computational methods. We have chosen MSI as our long-term partner for reasons including their software technology and their experience in working with leading companies in the life sciences.''

"The formation of this strong, strategic partnership with AgrEvo further strengthens MSI's position in the agrochemicals industry. We look forward to working with AgrEvo to advance the impact of our technology on AgrEvo's current and future research,'' says Dr. Ralf Peters of MSI.

AgrEvo is a global player in biotechnology, seeds, crop protection, and environmental health. The company markets a wide range of products for enhancing crop production, together with applications for urban pest control. AgrEvo operates in more than 70 countries with approximately 9,000 employees. Sales for 1997 were DM 4,1 billion.

Molecular Simulations Inc., a subsidiary of Pharmacopeia, Inc., is a leading provider of molecular modeling, simulation, and informatics software to the world's foremost research and development facilities. Using MSI's innovative products, researchers can organize and analyze scientific data, share biological and chemical information, and develop novel compounds, materials, and processes.
