Winnipeg, Manitoba
April 23 1999Agricore has purchased a state of the art seed treating
and coating facility - Keystone Seedcoaters in Rivers, Manitoba.
Agricore spokesperson Bob Hiebert says the facility is a good fit with the companys
plan to bring added value to its customers. Hiebert expects the plant will be used
primarily to treat canola and peas.
Keystone Seedcoaters was built in 1994 to meet demand for applying seed protection
products on canola and innoculants on peas. The plant has the capacity to meet the needs
of Agricores retail system in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
The purchase of Keystone Seedcoaters is an addition to Agricores existing cleaning
and value added plants in Alberta. This solidifies Agricores commitment to the seed
business across Western Canada.
The facility at Rivers meets or exceeds all environmental requirements and was built with
community and employee safety as a priority. Hiebert says Agricore will retain four former
employees and for the time being continue to run the business under the Keystone name.
Agricore is western Canadas leading crop input supplier. The company was established
in November 1998 by the merger of Manitoba Pool Elevators and Alberta Pool.
