Canada Inc. has just received registration
of an exceptional new hybrid canola for use in both western and eastern Canada. InVigor
2473 hybrid canola will be available in limiteci supply in Ontario and Quebec in 1999,
according to AgrEvo Canada Inc.
"InVigor 2473 hybrid canola will offer farmers the
iatest in plant breeding," says Lionel Lamont, Market Manager Seeds for AgrEvo Canada
Inc. "InVigor 2473 establishes quickly with vigorous early season growth, matures
uniformly and offers consistently higher yields than open-pollinated varieties.
Like all InVigor hybrids, 2473 is produced by using
AgrEvo's unique hybridization technology. The InVigor hybridization technique is
different, combining classical techniques and genetic engineering, and incorporating the
very latest breeding tools to develop higher yielding canola hvbrids.
Although the gene for resistance to Liberty Herbicide is
inserted in ail LibertyLink canola, Liberty is not yet registered for use on canola in
eastern Canada. The regulatory package has been submitted and AgrEvo expects to have
approval for the year 2000, which will be in-line with the full launch of [nvigor 2473.
"Due to it's outstanding performance in the public trials, InVigor 2473 received
registration a year earlier than expected, but we felt that some growers may want to try a
small amount of this exciting new hybrid even without the availability of the complete
Liberty Link System", says Greig Zamecnik, Market Manager for AgrEvo in eastern
Canada.
