The
AUSVEG board have
appointed Richard Mulcahy as the new Chief Executive Officer of
AUSVEG. AUSVEG is the national peak industry body representing
the interests of Australian vegetable and potato growers.
Richard Mulcahy is a former parliamentary representative with
nearly two decades of experience in employer associations. Mr
Mulcahy said that he was delighted to accept the position as
Chief Executive Officer of AUSVEG.
“I would like to thank Interim CEO Robert Lawler for his
leadership over the past 12 months as AUSVEG adopted its new
constitution.
“I am determined to do everything I can to provide help to
Australia’s vegetable growers who are facing increasing
challenges due to the global financial crisis, extreme weather
events and global competition.”
Elected as the Member for Molonglo in the Legislative Assembly
of the Australian Capital Territory in 2004, Richard Mulcahy has
held numerous portfolios including Deputy Leader of the
Opposition in the ACT in 2006 and Shadow Treasurer from 2004 to
2006. He also served as Chairman on the Standing Committee on
Public Accounts for the Legislative Assembly of the ACT from
December 2004 - 2007.
Prior to serving as an elected representative he was National
Executive Director of the Australian Hotels Association from
1992 to 2003.
Under his leadership the association became one of Australia’s
highest profile industry organisations. Other senior roles he
has held include:
- Director with William
Wrigley Junior Company in Chicago USA
- Chief Executive Officer of the Confectionary Manufacturers
of Australia
- Principal Personal Assistant to the former Premier of
Victoria, the late Sir Rupert Hamer.
AUSVEG Chairman John Brent said,
“Richard Mulcahy has a proven track record of leadership. He
will bring to AUSVEG a wealth of experience and qualifications
that can move the organisation forwards.”
Mr Mulcahy was appointed as AUSVEG CEO on Monday 20 April and
will be officially introduced to the industry at the Vegetable
Industry Conference in Melbourne from May 4-6. “I am eager to
meet with vegetable growers at conference and listen to what
they have to say,” he said. |
