Seed Consultants, Inc.
(SCI) has been named the exclusive Ohio distributor of
America’s Alfalfa.
America’s Alfalfa Product Specialist Kevin Keckley says, “I have
personally worked closely with Seed Consultants for several
years, providing both turf and forage seeds, and I am acutely
aware of not only their work ethic, but also their desire to
provide the highest quality products available to their
customers.”
The specialist in West Jefferson, Oh., continues, “This
relationship and knowledge made working exclusively with them to
provide America's Alfalfa to the farmers in Ohio an easy
decision.”
President Chris Jeffries says, “Seed Consultants and our
customers have had tremendous success with America’s Alfalfa.”
AmericaStand, 407TQ, 404 LH and 403T are well suited to the
Eastern Corn Belt’s soils and climate.
SCI agronomist Mike Earley adds, “The varieties have a
tremendous disease package and seem to fit our soil types and
weather. There is very good protection against crown rot,
fusarium and phytophphora in all three varieties.”
Establishing a four-year stand of alfalfa costs $15.75 per acre
for seed. To make the most of your investment, choose the best
variety. Along with choosing a variety for your soils and
climate, Earley suggests:
■ Prepare a firm seedbed.
■ Seed alfalfa ˝ inch deep
■ Get pH levels in line, 6.5-7.
■ Prepare the soil a year before—especially if the field
needs lime.
“If you know the field is going to
be in alfalfa, get the fertility in line the year before so the
fertilizer has time to break down and become available for the
plant to use,” Earley adds.
