Early bird registrations close
this Friday 27 March for the
2009 Australian Vegetable
Industry Conference, ‘Growing a Healthy Australia’, to be
held in Melbourne from 4-6 May. Those who register by this date
will save $50 with their early bird registration.

John Brent said, “Already this year has presented significant
challenges for our industry, including extreme weather with
devastating consequences. There has never been a more opportune
time to come together as an industry and show just how resilient
we can be.
“The conference will see growers, industry service providers,
government stakeholders and supply chain representatives unite
to learn about the latest industry technological advancements
and R&D projects, and look ahead to the future of the Australian
vegetable industry.”

and features sessions on hot topics such as Growing a Healthy
Business; Evolving Market Channels; and Carbon Trading and
Climate Change in Agriculture.
“Coles’ Peter Pokorny, General Manager of Fresh Produce, will
speak from a local perspective, which will be a highlight for
growers at the conference,” said John Brent.
Day two of the conference, Tuesday 5 May, will feature renowned
keynote speakers Dr. Frank Louws, Extension Plant Pathologist,
North Carolina State University; Michael O’Keeffe, Director,
O’Keeffe & Associates; and Tom Rafferty, Director, Supply Chain
STO.
Day three of the conference, Wednesday 6 May, will feature an
‘Innovation R&D Showcase’. Speakers, including levy-funded
researchers, will present in three streams: vegetables, potatoes
and general.
The conference will be held from 4-6 May 2009 at the Melbourne
Convention Centre with the Vegetable Industry Awards held at
Crown Palladium on Wednesday 6 May.
