US Agriseeds hot peppers perform well in University of Illinois trials

.

March 20, 2009

The University of Illinois St. Charles Horticulture Research Center recently released observations of its 2008 Chile Pepper Trials. The results showed that US Agriseeds hot pepper varieties performed well against competitor varieties. The trial was conducted in St. Charles, Illinois by Mr. William H. Shoemaker, Senior Research Specialist, Food Crops. US Agriseeds varieties trialed were Jalapenos Talon, Valor, Tormenta and Mammoth (photo), Serranos Optimo and Devil, and Anchos Masivo, Master and San Ardo.

Even with a difficult wet season, US Agriseeds’ hot peppers produced healthy plants with high quality fruit. Compared to popular competitor varieties, US Agriseeds’ Jalapenos Talon, Valor, Tormenta and Mammoth “were larger and had better color.” In addition, “they were less prone to checking on the pod surface.” Mr. Shoemaker stated that “Mammoth would make a great stuffing jalapeno” due to its jumbo size. US Agriseeds’ Serrano varieties were also praised for their great appearance as they were noted to be “big, classy peppers.” US Agriseeds hot pepper varieties may prove to be better choices for the Midwest’s growing appeal for Hispanic cuisine and spicy foods.

US Agriseeds strives to provide growers with healthy, strong plants while meeting consumer demand for large, attractive fruit. US Agriseeds continues to promote its products to the NAFTA, Central American, South American, and global markets. They will be attending the ISF Congress this May in Antalya, Turkey as well as hosting their annual field day during the month of August in Gilroy, CA. US Agriseeds will exhibit this year at both the PMA Fresh Summit Expo in Anaheim, CA and at Expo Agroalimentaria in Guanajuato, Mexico.
