Richard Wansbutter has been elected to a two-year term as Chair of the Canola Council of Canada (CCC) Board of Directors. He and a new executive team were elected following the close of the CCC’s 42nd annual convention in Toronto.

Wansbutter, who is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba with Viterra, takes over for outgoing Chairman Stewart Gilroy.

"I am thrilled that I was nominated and elected as Chair for the Canola Council," says Wansbutter. "I am looking forward to working with the board for the next couple of years. Our focus for the upcoming year is to maintain the momentum in order to reach our 2015 target of 15 million tonnes of sustainable demand and production. That remains a critical priority. Of course, that includes working on our supporting strategies, such as increasing the consumption and value of canola, improving quality, ensuring market access and supporting sustainable production."

The new Vice Chair of the CCC Board of Directors is Ken Stone of Cargill. Dave Parsons of Viterra becomes 2nd Vice Chair. Ernie Sirski of the Manitoba Canola Growers Association (MCGA), who is returning to the Board, was named Chair of the Finance Committee. The Director at Large on the executive is Garth Hodges of Bayer CropScience.

In addition to Sirski, three other new directors join the CCC Board -- Woody Galloway of Bunge; Greg Porozni of the Alberta Canola Producer Commission (ACPC); and Terry Youzwa of the Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission (SCDC).

Outgoing directors are Ed Rempel of the MCGA, Jim Caughlin of SCDC, Doug Hooper of Canadian Bioenergy Corporation, and Herb Schafer of Bunge.
