Indiana Crop Improvement Association, Inc. announces new board members and awards from 2009 Annual Conference

Lafayette, Indiana

The 2009-2010 Executive Committee and the newly elected members for the Board of Directors of the Indiana Crop Improvement Association were recently announced at the 2009 ICIA Annual Meeting held at the Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel & Suites, Keystone Crossing, February 5-6, 2009.

2009-2010 Executive Committee members are:

President Jon Stafford, Westbred LLC;
Vice President Ben Kaehler, Dow AgroSciences;
Director at Large Mike Davis, AgVenture;
Immediate Past President Jim Stewart, Stewart Seeds Inc.; and
Dr. Sonny Ramaswamy, Ag Research programs Purdue

2009-2010 Newly elected Board Members are:

Bob Bischoff, AgriPro Coker Wheat;
Carlos Iglesias, Weaver Popcorn; and
Greg Smith, Hubner Industries LLC.

As the new president of the Indiana Seed Trade Association: Tim Reese, Fielder’s Choice/GrowDirect, serves as an Ex-officio board member.

Awards given during this year’s ICIA Annual Conference.

  • Zarrell Gray of Gray’s Seed, Inc. /Teays River Investments, received the Crop and Soils Merit Award; the Association’s highest award. This award recognized Zarrell’s distinct and outstanding contributions to the Association and to Indiana Agriculture.
  • Dr. Randy Woodson; Purdue University Provost, received the ICIA Distinguished Service Award. This prestigious award has been given to only a few individuals throughout ICIA history. Dr. Woodson was recognized for his significant involvement with ICIA.
  • 50 Year Seedsman awards were given to Powell & Sons Seeds and L&R Rusch Farms
  • Indiana Seed Industry Graduate Study Fellowship was given to Michael Popelka. Popelka is currently a graduate student studying corn breeding genetics under the direction of Professor Mitch Tuinstra in the Department of Agronomy at Purdue University. Michael graduated from Kansas State University in 2008.

Indiana Crop Improvement Association, Inc. is a science-based testing laboratory and technology center, offering seed and green tissue testing services for most crop species. In addition to conventional lab tests, the Genetics Lab offers PCR and ELISA trait testing and a line-up of GMO tests for seed, grain and related products.
