The Iowa State
University Seed Laboratory will be conducting its annual
Corn and Soybean Seed Quality Workshop August 19 & 20.
It is a great opportunity for gaining hands-on experience with
most tests commonly conducted on corn and soybean seed lots.
Hands-on testing includes:
- warm germination (rolled
towels, Versa-Pak, sand),
- vigor (tray cold,
saturated cold, AA),
- trait/AP (herbicide
bioassay, lateral flow strips),
- other tests (tetrazolium,
fast green - corn, seed soak - soybeans, and more).
The first day concentrates on
corn, the second day on soybeans.
Lecture topics include seed & seedling morphology, Rules,
seedling evaluation, seed health, trait/AP, sampling, and seed
industry organizations. Two seed lots are followed through all
tests each day. Participants will discuss results of the day's
testing plus testing issues from the previous season.
