Agricultural water stewardship
resource center highlights important on-farm management
practices
The
California Agricultural Water Stewardship Initiative (CAWSI)
today launched the online
Agricultural Water
Stewardship Resource Center. The resource center is a
clearing house of information and resources on important on-farm
practices for sound water management, many of which have been
overlooked for their potential to help agriculture thrive while
stewarding the water that flows through farms.
The listed practices include environmentally sound water
storage, recycling, management, and efficiency measures that
collectively represent significant potential for enhancing
agricultural water security while contributing to sound overall
management of water supplies. Kristin Rosenow, Executive
Director of the Ecological Farming Association and a member of
CAWSI says “With many farmers facing increased water challenges
due to drought and water quality regulations, it is more
important than ever to get farmers the information and resources
they need manage these growing water risks.”
The listing for each practice includes an overview, water
savings, applicability, additional benefits, key resources, and
case studies. The site is for all agricultural water
decision-makers, from growers and ranchers to policymakers.
CAWSI is a collaborative effort of California sustainable
agriculture organizations, including the California Institute
for Rural Studies, Community Alliance with Family Farmers,
Ecological Farming Association, Occidental Arts and Ecology
Center WATER Institute, Polaris Institute, and Wild Farm
Alliance.
