Producers can count on more oil
per acre from the six new hybrids
Mycogen Seeds has added to
its sunflower portfolio for 2010. These high-performance hybrids
offer the industry leading technology, with options for downy
mildew (DM) resistance, CLEARFIELD® herbicide technology or
both.
“It’s an exciting year for Mycogen Seeds. We have a strong line
up of new hybrids, in addition to several grower favorites,”
says John Kalthoff, oil seeds marketing specialist, Mycogen
Seeds. “We are proud to have the ability to offer growers a
large number of choices and opportunities for increased
premiums.”
New Sunflower Hybrids
- 8N270CLDM is
Mycogen Seeds’ earliest CLEARFIELD hybrid with genetic
resistance to DM. Its appearance, yield, plant health, and
root- and stalk-lodging characteristics are similar to
8N270. This hybrid is well-suited for the NuSun® oil, bird
food and hulling markets.
- A full-season,
DM-resistant hybrid, 8N433DM is a medium-tall plant
with excellent tolerance to root lodging. It features very
good oil content and a solid NuSun oil profile with oleic
acid levels in the mid-60s.
- 8H288CLDM is an
early maturing high oleic hybrid with genetic resistance to
all known U.S. races of DM and CLEARFIELD herbicide
technology. Medium-short plants produce good yields of very
high oil content seed. 8H288CLDM also has superior drydown
characteristics.
- Hybrid 8H419CLDM
provides genetic resistance to all known U.S. DM races. This
medium full-season hybrid is widely adapted when planted in
a timely manner, and offers additional protection with the
built-in CLEARFIELD trait. 8H419CLDM is a DM-resistant
version of 8H419CL.
- 8H449CLDM is a
CLEARFIELD version of hybrid 8H449DM with genetic resistance
to all U.S. DM races. This mid- to late-oleic hybrid yields
excellent oil content and very high oleic levels.
- An early NuSun hybrid that
combines DM resistance and the CLEARFIELD trait,
8N358CLDM is a medium height, mid-season hybrid with
good drydown characteristics. Suited for shorter growing
seasons in Northern regions, this hybrid is proven to
deliver high oil levels.
Meeting Growers’ Needs
Mycogen Seeds uses an elite global breeding program and advanced
industry-leading technology to develop all of its hybrids,
including these six new hybrids. In addition, science-based
field trials vigorously test all MYCOGEN® brand hybrids for
performance before they are released to the marketplace. This
means growers can achieve more oil per acre and have access to
all markets from confections to high oils, Kalthoff says.
“Every grower can find the solution for their needs with the
MYCOGEN brand sunflower lineup, which is the largest in the
industry,” he says. “From Omega-9 oils to NuSun to confections,
we offer high-performance hybrids for multiple markets.”
