Updates convenor Greg Shea said opportunities and change
would be the focus of this year’s event. |
Opportunities and change are the
key themes for the
Department of Agriculture and Food’s
2009 Agribusiness Crop Updates.
Supported by the Grains
Research and Development Corporation, Crop Updates will be
held on February 24 and 25 at Burswood Entertainment Complex
Event convenor Greg Shea said Crop Updates was the premier event
for the grains industry in Western Australia.
“The event showcases the latest research and development
information in grain production and marketing, and provides an
opportunity for networking between key members of the industry,”
Mr Shea said.
“This year’s program includes keynote addresses from Dr Doug
Edmeades from AgResearch in New Zealand and Dr Jeff Baldock from
CSIRO Land and Water.
“Dr Edmeades will highlight the importance of distinguishing
fact from fiction before adopting new agricultural products or
management advice, while Dr Baldock will talk about options for
increasing soil carbon content.
“Department staff will also highlight a number of key research
and extension areas including performance on new wheat, barley
and canola varieties in WA, oilseed production, weed and disease
control and fertiliser inputs and pricing.”
