Burrus Hybrids has added
a 16,800 square-foot cold storage building at the company’s
Arenzville facility to maintain optimum seed quality. The
announcement was made by Tom Burrus, president of Burrus
Hybrids.
“Our mission at Burrus is to provide quality seed, consistent
performance, and exceptional value so our growers are successful
year after year,” said Burrus. “This facility is evidence of our
commitment to the future as a growing independent and the
quality of the seed we provide.”
The 112’ by 150’ refrigerated storage area will maintain 50
degrees and 50% humidity year round. Insulation is sandwiched
between metal walls to prohibit moisture absorption when
exterior temperature fluctuates.
“The storage unit will maintain the high warm and cold
germinations of our seed products for the maximum number of
years if necessary,” said Tim Greene of Burrus Hybrids. “We can
hold up to 90,000 units of seed in the climate-controlled area.”
Also included in the new building is an indoor staging area to
keep products and personnel out of the elements. A five-bay
loading dock will maximize efficiency during shipping season.
“As the value of seed continues to increase, investing in
operations to provide the ultimate in quality is a no-brainer,”
said Todd Burrus. “These enhancements show that we are focused
on the future and is another statement that Burrus Hybrids is
committed to the success of our customers.”
Burrus Hybrids was founded in 1935 by brothers Roy and Wilbur
Burrus. The company is in its fourth generation of family
ownership and produces seed corn and soybeans with distribution
in Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, and Iowa.
