Fruit Logistica, the
leading global trade event for the fresh produce trade held in
Berlin, attracted 50,000 trade visitors from 125 different
countries in its 48th edition of this year.
The event “continues to gain
importance in the international produce trade”, the exhibition
executive Dr. Chris Göke said. And the increase of exhibitors,
of represented countries and exhibition space for this year’s
event show it.
A total of 2,288 exhibitors,
178 more than last year’s edition, attended the fair. They were
representing 80 countries, 12 more than in 2008, in a exhibition
space of 88,000m2, 7,000m2 more than in 2008.
Around 89% of these exhibitors
came from outside Germany, most of them being from EU countries
(68%), especially from Spain, France, Italy, The Netherlands and
Great Britain/Northern Ireland. Others (25%) came from other
parts of the world.

The event of this year
presented several conferences with leader professionals in the
sector. The current situation of retail was one of the issues
that were discussed in the conferences.

Freshconex
Together with Fruit Logistica,
this year was held the second edition of Freshconex, the trade
fair for the rapidly growing fresh-cut convenience sector.
73 exhibitors from 13 different
countries attended the event and presented its products and
services. 80% of them were from out of Germany, mainly from
Italy, the Netherlands and France. The increase of the space for
the event of this year (4000m2), that almost doubled the space
destined to it last year (2400m2), show the increase of the
importance of the fresh-cut sector.
Several conferences by
leaders in the fresh-cut sector were held in Freshconex
One of them was dedicated to
the seeds companies and how these are developing new products
specifically for the fresh-cut sector. Ton van de Goor, Product
Business Manager at Syngenta Seeds (EAME), explained the work of
Syngenta in that area.
