Beck’s Hybrids offers choices for reducing crop insurance costs

.

Atlanta, Indiana
September 30, 2008

Beck’s Hybrids offers choices to farmers in helping farmers reduce their crop insurance premiums. The Biotech Yield Endorsement (BYE) released last year by the Risk Management Agency (RMA), allowed for reduced crop insurance premiums for farmers using YieldGard Plus® with Roundup Ready® Corn 2 and YieldGard VT Triple® hybrids. The Biotechnology Endorsement (BE) program for 2009 has now been expanded to include Herculex® XTRA, Herculex® XTRA with Roundup Ready Corn 2, and Agrisure 3000GT® insect protection traits.

Farmers in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan now can choose which genetics and traits work best for them in their farming operation when planting Beck’s hybrids. Beck’s Hybrids offers a wide selection of genetics coupled with genetic traits such as YieldGard Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2 (CBRWRR), YieldGard VT Triple (VT3), Herculex XTRA (HXT) and Herculex XTRA with Roundup Ready Corn 2 (HXR) to aid farmers in the in-plant control of western, northern, and Mexican corn rootworm, and European corn borer, as well as other secondary pests. The use of these products has shown to substantially reduce yield loss as a result of better plant protection against insects.

Additionally, Beck’s Hybrids will also offer Agrisure 3000GT (Beck 5716A3) corn in their lineup for the 2009 planting season. Agrisure 3000GT has also been added to the list of traits approved for premium rate reduction in the BE program. Agrisure 3000GT has only been approved for premium reduction in Indiana and Illinois in Beck’s marketing area. “This is an outstanding new addition to the Beck’s Triple Stack lineup,” said Scott Beck, Vice President of Beck’s Hybrids. This new trait package offers corn rootworm and corn borer resistance along with the option to apply glufosinate or glyphosate herbicides.

Dr. Kevin Cavanaugh, Beck’s Hybrids Research Director says, “Growers planting Beck’s YieldGard Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2 (CBRWRR), YieldGard VT Triple (VT3), Herculex XTRA (HXT), Herculex XTRA with Roundup Ready Corn 2 (HXR), or Agrisure 3000GT (A3) will find, on average, a 15 bushel per acre yield advantage over non traited corn products.”

Beck’s Hybrids will continue to offer their growers various trait and genetic options. For example, Beck’s is offering a different refuge strategy for some triple stack products that can improve yield and agronomic performance. “Growers will have new and different genetics to plant on their refuge acres that can improve health, standability and yield in the refuge”, says Dr. Kevin Cavanaugh, Beck’s Research Director.
