Grain growers are invited to the
launch and naming of two new rust resistant wheat varieties at
COGGO's bulk-up site at
Northam on Tuesday, October 7.
RAC1372 and RAC1400, have been developed by
Australian Grain
Technologies (AGT).
RAC1372 is a Wyalkatchem derivative, but not as
susceptible to yield reduction when challenged by stripe rust.
Trials have shown average yields seven per cent higher than
Wyalkatchem. A mid-season variety flowering at a similar time to
Wyalkatchem, it has a preliminary APW/AH classification for WA
from the AWB.
RAC1400 is related to Camm, Stilletto and Spear, has
excellent rust resistance and is particularly suited to medium
to high rainfall areas with a longer growing season. With
similar adaptation to Spear, it will be welcomed by growers
looking to reduce frost exposure.
COGGO CEO, Geoff Smith, is enthusiastic about their release.
"The launch of a new variety is always an exciting event and
this one offers growers the opportunity to see a range of AGT
varieties side by side in the field, including the new RAC1372
and RAC1400, Gladius and Espada," he said.
The launch starts at 10.30am with an address by AGT CEO Dr
Stephen Jefferies and includes lunch and refreshments.
Interested growers should contact Erin Baker, COGGO Market
Development Officer, Tel 9363 3400 for further details and to
confirm attendance.
