Today Georgia deposited its
instrument of accession to the UPOV Convention and will become
the sixty-sixth member of the
International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of
Plants (UPOV) on November 29, 2008.
The purpose of the UPOV Convention is to encourage the
development of new varieties of plants by granting breeders an
intellectual property right on the basis of a set of clearly
defined principles. To be eligible for protection, varieties
need to satisfy certain conditions, such as being distinct from
existing, commonly known varieties and sufficiently uniform and
stable. New varieties of plants are one of the most powerful
tools to enhance food production in a sustainable way, to
increase income in the agricultural sector and to contribute to
overall development.
The Acting Secretary-General of UPOV, Mr. Francis Gurry,
welcomed the deposit of the instrument of accession of Georgia
to the UPOV Convention (1991 Act) and expressed his satisfaction
that UPOV has now reached 66 members.

Georgia (as of November 29, 2008), Hungary, Iceland,

Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, New
Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Poland,
Portugal, Republic of Korea, Republic of Moldova, Romania,
Russian Federation, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South
Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Trinidad and Tobago,
Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States of
America, Uruguay, Uzbekistan and Viet Nam.
UPOV is an intergovernmental
organization which is based in Geneva.
Georgia se
adhiere al Convenio de la UPOV
Hoy Georgia ha depositado su
instrumento de adhesión al Convenio Internacional para la
Protección de las Obtenciones Vegetales (Convenio UPOV);
asimismo Georgia se convertirá en el sexagésimo sexto miembro de
la Unión Internacional para la Protección de las Obtenciones
Vegetales (UPOV) el 29 de noviembre de 2008.
El objetivo del Convenio de la UPOV es fomentar el desarrollo de
nuevas variedades vegetales mediante la concesión de un derecho
de propiedad intelectual para los obtentores sobre la base de un
conjunto de principios claramente definidos. Para poder obtener
protección, las variedades deben satisfacer ciertas condiciones,
como el ser distintas de variedades existentes y notoriamente
conocidas y al mismo tiempo ser suficientemente homogéneas y
estables. Las obtenciones vegetales son uno de los medios más
útiles para fomentar la producción alimentaria de una manera
sostenible, aumentar el ingreso en el sector agrícola y
contribuir al desarrollo general.
El Secretario General en funciones de la UPOV, Sr. Francis
Gurry, acogió con beneplácito el depósito del instrumento de
adhesión de Georgia al Convenio de la UPOV (Acta de 1991) y
expresó su satisfacción de que la UPOV ha alcanzado ahora 66
miembros.
La Géorgie
adhère à la convention UPOV
Aujourd’hui, la Géorgie a déposé
son instrument d’adhésion à la Convention UPOV et deviendra le
soixante-sixième membre de l’Union internationale pour la
protection des obtentions végétales (UPOV) le 29 novembre 2008.
La Convention internationale pour la protection des obtentions
végétales a pour objet d’encourager la création de nouvelles
variétés végétales en octroyant aux obtenteurs un droit de
propriété intellectuelle fondé sur un ensemble de principes
clairement définis. Pour pouvoir bénéficier de la protection,
les variétés doivent satisfaire à certaines conditions,
notamment être distinctes des variétés notoirement connues
existantes, et être suffisamment homogènes et stables.
L’obtention de nouvelles variétés constitue l’un des moyens les
plus efficaces pour améliorer durablement la production
alimentaire, faire progresser le revenu dans le secteur agricole
et contribuer au développement en général.
Le Secrétaire général par intérim de l’UPOV, M. Francis Gurry,
s’est félicité du dépôt de l’instrument d’adhésion de la Géorgie
à la Convention UPOV (Acte de 1991) et s’est déclaré satisfait
que l’UPOV compte maintenant 66 membres.

tritt dem UPOV-Übereinkommen bei
Heute hat Georgien seine
Beitrittsurkunde betreffend das Internationale Übereinkommen zum
Schutz von Pflanzenzüchtungen (das UPOV-Übereinkommen)
hinterlegt. Georgien wird das sechsundsechzigste Mitglied des
Internationalen Verbandes zum Schutz von Pflanzenzüchtungen
(UPOV) sein.
Zweck des UPOV-Übereinkommens ist es, die Entwicklung neuer
Pflanzensorten durch Erteilung eines Eigentumsrechts an die
Züchter aufgrund einer Reihe klar definierter Grundsätze zu
fördern. Um schutzfähig zu sein, müssen die Sorten bestimmte
Voraussetzungen erfüllen; beispielsweise müssen sie von
bestehenden, allgemein bekannten Sorten unterscheidbar sowie
hinreichend homogen und beständig sein. Neue Pflanzensorten sind
eines der wirksamsten Mittel zur Förderung der
Nahrungsmittelproduktion auf umweltverträgliche Weise, zur
Erhöhung des Einkommens im Agrarsektor und zur Förderung der
allgemeinen Entwicklung.
Der amtierende Generalsekretär der UPOV, Herr Francis Gurry,
begrüßte die Hinterlegung der Beitrittsurkunde Georgiens zum
UPOV-Übereinkommen (Akte von 1991) und drückte seine
Zufriedenheit darüber aus, daß die UPOV jetzt 66
Verbandsmitglieder zählt. |
